Auto Insurance

In the Province of Ontario, Auto Insurance is provided by private insurance companies, all of which have very different rates and rules.
As a broker, Rivet Insurance can help you find the insurance coverage most suited to your needs and expectations - at the best price possible!

As Northern Ontario residents, we have special needs due to the area we live in, such as ATV insurance and Snowmobile insurance, both of which can be added to your automobile plan or sold separately.

It's the Law!

The law requires you to have the following basic coverage...

  • Liability
  • Accident Benefits
  • Uninsured Automobile
  • Direct Compensation

Let us take the confusion out of what each of these means.

Mandatory: The following insurance coverages are required by law in Ontario.

Liability:
Provides coverage for you if someone else is killed or injured or their property is damaged in an automobile accident. It will pay for legitimate claims against you up to the limit of your coverage.

Accident Benefits:
Provides benefits that you are entitled to receive if injured or killed in an automobile accident. Some of the benefits include income replacement, payment of medical, rehabilitation/attendant care, funeral expenses and payments to survivors of a person who is killed.

Uninsured Automobile:
Provides coverage if you are injured or killed by an uninsured motorist or by a hit and run driver. It also covers damage to your automobile and its contents caused by an identified uninsured motorist, subject to a deductible.

Direct Compensation:
Provides coverage under certain conditions, for damage to your automobile where another Ontario motorist is responsible. It is called direct compensation because your insurer will pay for the damages even though you are not at fault for the accident.

Optional:

It is your option to choose additional coverage to cover direct and accidental loss of or damage to your automobile and it's equipment.

Specified Perils:
Covers your vehicle against loss or damage caused by certain specified perils such as fire, theft, lightning, hail and falling objects to name a few.

Comprehensive:
Covers your vehicle against loss or damage other than those covered by Collision including perils listed under Specified Perils.

Collision or Upset:
Covers damage when your vehicle is involved in a collision with another object or tips over.

All Perils:
     Combines Collision and Comprehensive coverage.
