Home Inventory

A Home Inventory Checklist is an invaluable resource if you should ever experience a loss, as recalling all of your possessions during a stressful occasion such as this may not come easy. Furthermore, it helps your broker to determine the most appropriate coverage for your situation and belongings.

The following form can provide you with a room-by-room inventory of your home; simply print out the tables and fill in the blanks. When finished, you will have an itemized list of all of your belongings and their values. Adding up the totals will determine if your current coverage is adequate or not.

Some Helpful Tips: Adding serial numbers will help with the identification of your possessions in case of a theft. If no serial numbers are present, consider etching your driver’s license number somewhere on the object. Bringing a video camera from room to room or taking pictures can be helpful with remembering smaller details or information that might not fit on the form. Remember to add everything, look under beds, in closets and the attic to ensure nothing is forgotten. When complete, store this inventory checklist in a location separate from your home; with a family member, at work or a safety deposit box, for example. Keep receipts, warranties and photocopies of important documents with this checklist, which may come in helpful when submitting a claim.
